The ManiaPlanet community-based game creation service from Ubisoft and Nadeo will launch in July with the TrackMania 2 Canyon closed beta.

We haven't heard much about TrackMania 2 since its initial announcement, but Ubisoft and developer Nadeo have announced that the game will be up and running for closed beta testing in July.

The TrackMania 2 beta will also mark the beginning of the ManiaPlanet service, eventually to include RPG and FPS titles ShootMania and QuestMania. All games will feature the facility for users to create their own content and share it with the community, just as TrackMania has been doing since its initial release back in 2003.

"TrackMania always has been about delivering the purest, simplest and most enjoyable form of racing and combining it with the creativity and talent of our online community," said Stephanie Perotti, worldwide online director at Ubisoft. "With TrackMania 2 Canyon, we're giving players a more modern, realistic and visually stunning racing experience that they can build upon and personalize in ways that simply aren't possible with other racing games.

"ManiaPlanet is about putting players at the center of the gaming experience," she continued. "With TrackMania, ShootMania and QuestMania, we're offering approachable, fun and first-rate online titles. More importantly, these games are powered by the players and their limitless imaginations and creativity."

Ubisoft suggests that we can expect a closed beta of ShootMania "in the coming months" while QuestMania's closed beta will be available "at a later date." TrackMania 2's beta will pop up at some point in July, though there's no specific date as yet. Find out more about the games on the official site.
