Everyone’s favourite digital LEGO (as I like to call it) will soon be available on your favourite smartphone, starting with the first Playstation certified phone, the Sony Xperia Play. So yes, this effectively means that we are all doomed to die soon as our lives are consumed by a never ending way of building a virtual world.

Indie developer Mojang has said that the popular mining/crafting/zombie game is going to be launching exclusively on the Sony Xperia Play. Development for Apple iOS and other Android devices is under way, but they’ll have to wait a little longer to join in on the fun.

One of the best aspects of this is that the game will not be a direct port of the PC version, but rather a brand new title developed especially for the mobile platform. Busy working on the PC version of Minecraft, Markus “Notch” Persson is passing the reins to Aron Neiminen and Jens Bergensten for development.

Although a release date and price were not mention, there was an announcement that there would be a Minecraft-themed event held at E3 in June, which is sure to provide us with all the information that we are desperately craving. Don’t judge me, you know you want Minecraft on your phone as well.
